Ingredients
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 pound ground beef (90% lean)
- ½ teaspoon table salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 8 oz provolone cheese
- 4 hoagie rolls (7” each) or 1 French baguette, cut into 4 pieces
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Cook the Beef Mixture:
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, ground beef, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper.
- Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft and the beef is browned.
- Prepare the Rolls:
- While the beef mixture cooks, slice the hoagie rolls in half (or cut the baguette into four 4” pieces and slice each piece in half). Place the rolls on a baking sheet.
- Add Cheese:
- Once the beef mixture is cooked, lay half the slices of provolone cheese over the beef mixture and reduce the heat to low.
- Allow the cheese to melt, about 1-2 minutes, then stir until the mixture is well combined.
- Assemble the Sandwiches:
- Using tongs, transfer the beef and cheese mixture evenly onto the prepared rolls. Place the remaining cheese on top of each sandwich.
- Toast the Sandwiches:
- Place the sandwiches in the preheated oven and bake for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the rolls are lightly toasted.
- Serve:
- Serve the sandwiches hot and enjoy your delicious Philly cheesesteak!
Notes
- You can use other cheese varieties like American cheese or cheddar, but provolone is the traditional choice for Philly cheesesteaks.
- For extra flavor, add a dash of soy sauce or hot sauce to the beef mixture.
- You can also sauté mushrooms with the onions and peppers for an added texture and flavor.
