This 30-Minute Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteak is a quick and flavorful twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak. Made with ground beef, sautéed onions, bell peppers, and topped with provolone cheese, all served on toasted hoagie rolls, it’s the perfect satisfying weeknight dinner that comes together in just 30 minutes!

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 sandwiches

Ingredients

  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 pound ground beef (90% lean)
  • ½ teaspoon table salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 oz provolone cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls (7” each) or 1 French baguette, cut into 4 pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  3. Cook the Beef Mixture:
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, ground beef, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  5. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft and the beef is browned.
  6. Prepare the Rolls:
  7. While the beef mixture cooks, slice the hoagie rolls in half (or cut the baguette into four 4” pieces and slice each piece in half). Place the rolls on a baking sheet.
  8. Add Cheese:
  9. Once the beef mixture is cooked, lay half the slices of provolone cheese over the beef mixture and reduce the heat to low.
  10. Allow the cheese to melt, about 1-2 minutes, then stir until the mixture is well combined.
  11. Assemble the Sandwiches:
  12. Using tongs, transfer the beef and cheese mixture evenly onto the prepared rolls. Place the remaining cheese on top of each sandwich.
  13. Toast the Sandwiches:
  14. Place the sandwiches in the preheated oven and bake for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the rolls are lightly toasted.
  15. Serve:
  16. Serve the sandwiches hot and enjoy your delicious Philly cheesesteak!

Notes

  • You can use other cheese varieties like American cheese or cheddar, but provolone is the traditional choice for Philly cheesesteaks.
  • For extra flavor, add a dash of soy sauce or hot sauce to the beef mixture.
  • You can also sauté mushrooms with the onions and peppers for an added texture and flavor.
