This easy baked hamburger recipe delivers juicy, flavorful burgers without the need for a grill. Ground beef is mixed with BBQ sauce and hamburger seasoning, then baked on a rack in the oven to allow fat to drip away, resulting in tender, delicious patties perfect for serving on buns with your favorite toppings.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Beef Patties

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (80% lean and 20% fat)
  • 1 Tablespoon BBQ sauce (or steak sauce)
  • 2 teaspoons hamburger seasoning

Optional Toppings

  • Cheese slices
  • Hamburger buns
  • Favorite burger toppings (lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup, mustard, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Mix the Ingredients: Combine the ground beef, BBQ sauce, and hamburger seasoning in a medium-sized bowl. Mix gently with your hands just until combined, being careful not to overwork the meat to keep the patties tender.
  2. Shape the Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty about 1/2-inch thick. Use your thumb to make a shallow well in the center of each patty to prevent it from bulging while baking.
  3. Prepare to Bake: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup, then place a cooling rack on top of the foil-lined pan. This setup allows fat to drip away from the patties during baking.
  4. Bake the Burgers: Arrange the patties on the cooling rack spaced evenly. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 155°F (68°C) and juices run clear. If desired, add cheese slices on top of the patties during the last few minutes of baking to melt.
  5. Serve: Remove the burgers from the oven and let them rest briefly. Serve on hamburger buns with your favorite toppings like lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup, or mustard to enjoy a classic homemade burger experience.

Notes

  • Making a small indentation in the center of the patties helps keep them flat and prevents puffing up during baking.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the burgers reach a safe internal temperature of 155°F.
  • Line the baking sheet with foil for quick cleanup from drippings and grease.
  • Feel free to customize seasoning blends or sauces to your taste for different flavors.
  • Optional cheese melts best if added a couple minutes before the end of baking.
