Ingredients
- For the Donut Holes:
- ½ cup mashed banana (about 1 large banana)
- ¾ cup self-rising flour
- For the Coating:
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil (melted, or use melted vegan butter)
- For Kneading:
- 2–3 teaspoons melted coconut oil
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: Mash the banana into a smooth puree, ensuring you get ½ cup of banana for the right ratio with the flour.
- Mix the Ingredients: Add the self-rising flour to the mashed banana and stir with a rubber spatula until it starts to form lumps.
- Knead the Dough: Oil your hands with melted coconut oil and knead the dough into a ball. The dough will be sticky and moist — this is normal. Don’t over-add flour! If the dough is too sticky, use a bit more oil to smooth it, but avoid adding too much flour.
- Shape the Donut Holes: Grease your hands again with coconut oil, grab about a tablespoon of dough, and roll it into a ball. Place each ball onto a parchment paper-lined plate. Repeat until all the dough has been shaped into balls. Spray the dough balls with avocado oil.
- Air Fry the Donut Holes: Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (180°C). Spray the air fryer basket with oil and place the donut holes in the basket, leaving 1 inch (3 cm) between them as they expand. Air fry the donut holes for 6-7 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. They will have a rough shape and dry outside — this is normal.
- Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: Brush each warm donut hole with melted coconut oil using a pastry brush. Then, roll them into the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat evenly.
- Serve: Serve immediately while warm and enjoy!
Notes
- For an added flavor boost, sprinkle a little extra cinnamon on top after coating them in the cinnamon sugar.
- If you don’t have self-rising flour, you can make your own by adding 1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder and a pinch of salt to all-purpose flour.
- You can substitute coconut oil with butter or any other preferred oil if needed.
