Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure the bread bakes evenly.
- Prepare Baking Tin: Line a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan with parchment paper to prevent the bread from sticking and to facilitate easy removal.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt until well combined.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk and egg together thoroughly.
- Add Butter: Whisk the melted butter into the buttermilk and egg mixture until fully incorporated.
- Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold together. Be careful not to over-mix to keep the bread tender.
- Bake: Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for approximately 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Notes
- Do not over mix the batter to prevent the bread from becoming tough.
- Use fresh baking powder and baking soda to ensure proper rise.
- Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing for best texture.
- Substitute buttermilk with a mixture of milk and vinegar if buttermilk is unavailable.
- Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
