- ¼ teaspoon dried basil
- ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon paprika

- For the Dough:
- 1 12″ pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- For the Egg Wash:
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef, diced onions, salt, and pepper. Cook for 7-9 minutes until the beef is browned and the onions are soft.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, basil, oregano, brown sugar, paprika, cumin, and Worcestershire sauce. Cover and cook for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to develop.
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
- Prepare the Dough:
- Cut the pizza dough in half and roll each piece into 7″-9″ circles. Transfer the dough to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
- Assemble the Calzones:
- Sprinkle ¼ cup of mozzarella cheese on one half of each calzone.
- Top with sliced tomatoes and ½-¾ cup of the ground beef and tomato sauce mixture.
- Gently fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape, then pinch the edges together and fold them to seal. Repeat with the second calzone.
- Egg Wash:
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg.
- Brush the egg wash over the top of each calzone.
- Bake the Calzones:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
- Serve:
- Remove the calzones from the oven and serve with ranch dressing or your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
Notes
- If you prefer a vegetarian option, you can substitute the ground beef with mushrooms or ricotta cheese and spinach.
- For extra flavor, add crushed red pepper flakes to the filling for a spicy kick.
- Serve with a side salad for a complete meal.
