Ingredients
- 30 frozen dinner roll dough, thawed but still cold
- 1 1/4 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely diced
- Olive oil (for cooking)
- 1 tablespoon hamburger or steak seasoning (a mix of garlic, onion, pepper, and salt)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 oz chive and onion cream cheese, softened
- 1/3 cup chopped dill pickles
- 1/3 cup ketchup
- 3 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 large egg, beaten with 1 teaspoon cold water
- Sesame seeds (for topping)
Instructions
- Arrange the frozen dinner rolls on a wax paper-lined baking sheet without touching. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let sit for 1 hour, or until thawed but still cold.
- While the dough is thawing, heat a drizzle of olive oil in a large 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and onion, cooking until no pink remains in the beef. Drain excess fat.
- Add the steak seasoning, salt, and Worcestershire sauce to the beef. Mix well and cook for another minute. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool completely. (This step can be done in advance.)
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- To the cooled beef mixture, add the cheddar cheese, cream cheese, chopped pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Mix until fully combined.
- Flatten each dough round into a 2 1/2 – 3 inch circle. Place 1 tablespoon of the beef filling in the center of each dough round. Pinch the dough tightly around the filling to seal, and place the sealed dough seam side down on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg with water. Brush the egg wash on top and sides of each dough ball, then sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
- Bake for 20-22 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Serve immediately with special burger sauce for dipping.
Notes
- If you prefer a spicier version, you can add a dash of hot sauce or jalapeños to the beef mixture.
- For a fun twist, substitute the cheddar cheese with American or Swiss cheese.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheated in the oven for a crispy texture.
