Ingredients
Steak and Seasoning
- 3 lbs sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Au Jus Mixture
- 1 oz au jus mix (1 packet)
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 tablespoons garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Steak: Cut your sirloin steak into small, bite-sized pieces. Season the steak pieces generously with salt and black pepper to enhance their natural flavor.
- Sear the Steak: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Add the steak pieces and sear them for about 1-2 minutes on each side until they develop a brown crust. Do not cook them all the way through; this step is to lock in flavor and juices. Transfer the seared steak pieces into the slow cooker.
- Mix the Au Jus Broth: In a medium bowl, whisk together the au jus mix, beef broth, diced onion, minced garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. If you prefer a little heat, stir in the optional red pepper flakes.
- Combine and Slow Cook: Pour the broth mixture into the slow cooker with the seared steak pieces. Stir gently to combine all the ingredients evenly. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the steak is tender and infused with flavor.
- Serve: Once cooked, serve the steak bites hot with your favorite side dishes, generously topping them with the flavorful au jus. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Enjoy this hearty and comforting meal!
Notes
- Searing the steak before slow cooking adds depth of flavor but avoid overcooking to keep the steak tender.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level or omit for a milder dish.
- This recipe pairs well with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread to soak up the au jus.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Use fresh parsley for garnish to add color and a fresh herbal note.
