Ingredients
Base
- 14 full graham cracker sheets (any flavor)
Toffee Layer
- 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter
- 1 cup (200g) firmly packed light brown sugar
Topping
- 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ¼ cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400ºF (204ºC). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, a silicone mat, or lightly spray it with nonstick spray. Set aside.
- Arrange Graham Crackers: Break the 14 graham cracker sheets into squares and arrange them on the baking sheet to cover the bottom, leaving a little space between each piece. Set the baking sheet aside.
- Make the Toffee: In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup unsalted butter and 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring, allowing it to bubble for 4-5 minutes until it begins to darken slightly.
- Pour Toffee Over Crackers: Remove the saucepan from the heat and quickly pour the hot toffee evenly over the arranged graham crackers. Use a spatula to spread it to the edges, ensuring all crackers are coated.
- Bake the Toffee: Immediately place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8 minutes to let the toffee set and bubble on the crackers.
- Add Chocolate Chips: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and evenly sprinkle 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips over the hot toffee layer. Let it sit for 2 minutes to allow the chocolate to melt.
- Smooth the Chocolate: Using an offset spatula or spoon, gently spread the melted chocolate into a smooth layer across the toffee. If desired, sprinkle ¼ cup of chopped nuts or your favorite toppings evenly on top.
- Chill to Set: Place the baking sheet in the freezer for at least 1 hour or in the refrigerator for 2 hours until the toffee bark is fully set and hardened.
- Serve and Store: Once set, break the toffee into pieces of your desired size. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator for up to 10 days. For longer storage, freeze up to 3 months and thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute chopped nuts with sprinkles, sea salt flakes, or crushed candy for variation.
- Make sure to pour the toffee quickly over the crackers before it hardens to ensure even coating.
- If you prefer a softer toffee, reduce the boiling time slightly but be careful not to undercook.
- Use parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Toffee bark is best enjoyed once fully chilled and set for optimal texture.
