Ingredients
Greek Turkey Patties
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest (from ½ lemon)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ cup crumbled feta cheese
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup breadcrumbs
Burgers
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 burger buns
- ½ cup tzatziki sauce
- ½ long English cucumber, sliced
- ½ red onion, thinly sliced
Instructions
- Prepare the Greek Burger Patties: In a bowl, combine ground turkey, lemon zest, oregano, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, crumbled feta cheese, salt, egg, and breadcrumbs. Mix gently using your hands or a fork until just combined to avoid tough burgers.
- Form Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Shape each portion into a 3-4 inch diameter patty about 1 inch thick, ensuring even width across the burger for uniform cooking.
- Cook in Frying Pan: Heat olive oil in a 12-inch frying pan over medium heat. Add patties carefully and cook for 4-5 minutes per side until internal temperature reaches 165°F. Avoid pressing the patties to keep them juicy.
- Or Grill the Burgers: Preheat grill to 450°F and grease grill grates thoroughly. Place turkey patties on grill and cook for about 4 minutes per side, turning gently as raw patties are delicate. Ensure the internal temperature reaches 155°F while on grill, then remove and cover to rest for 5 minutes. The carryover heat will bring them to 165°F.
- Serve: Place cooked patties on burger buns and top with tzatziki sauce, sliced cucumber, and red onion slices. Serve immediately for a fresh, flavorful meal.
Notes
- Ground turkey can vary in fat content; 93% lean is optimal for juicy burgers.
- Resting grilled burgers allows residual heat to complete cooking and keeps them moist.
- You can toast burger buns lightly for added texture and flavor.
- Adjust seasoning according to taste, adding extra salt or herbs if desired.
