Hawaiian Teriyaki Beef Burgers bring the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors, combining juicy beef patties with the caramelized goodness of teriyaki-glazed onions, grilled pineapple, and fresh veggies. This island-inspired burger is a crowd favorite!

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • For the Beef Patties:
  • 680 g ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • For the Burger Assembly:
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted
  • 4 pineapple rings (canned or fresh)
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices tomato

Instructions

  1. Make the Patties: In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef with 2 tablespoons of teriyaki sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, then shape into four equal patties.
  2. Cook the Patties: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 4 to 6 minutes per side, depending on your desired doneness. During the last 2 minutes of cooking, glaze each patty with the remaining 2 tablespoons of teriyaki sauce.
  3. Grill the Pineapple: While the patties cook, grill the pineapple rings over medium-high heat for 1 to 2 minutes on each side until grill marks appear and the pineapple caramelizes. If you don’t have a grill, you can pan-fry the pineapple until lightly browned.
  4. Caramelize the Onions: In the same skillet or a separate pan, cook the sliced red onion over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are softened and caramelized. Add a splash of teriyaki sauce during the last minute of cooking for added flavor.
  5. Assemble the Burgers: To assemble, place a cooked patty on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with a grilled pineapple ring, caramelized onions, one lettuce leaf, and a slice of tomato. Cap with the top half of the bun.
  6. Serve: Serve the burgers immediately, and enjoy the tropical-inspired flavors!

Notes

  • Cheese: Add a slice of melted cheese (like Swiss, provolone, or cheddar) on top of the beef patty for extra richness.
  • Spicy Kick: Add jalapeños or a drizzle of sriracha to the burger for a spicy kick that complements the sweetness of the pineapple.
  • Veggie Options: Swap the beef patty for a plant-based burger patty to make it a vegetarian or vegan option.
  • Additional Toppings: Try adding avocado or pickles for even more flavor and texture.
  • Grilled Veggies: Top your burger with grilled bell peppers, zucchini, or mushrooms for added depth and smokiness.
