Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced (about ¼-inch thick)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ cup beef broth
- ¼ cup milk (optional)
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp paprika
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat & Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Thinly slice the potatoes to ¼-inch thickness.
- Cook the Beef: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onions and garlic until fragrant. Add the ground beef, seasoning with Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned and fully cooked.
- Assemble the Casserole: Grease a baking dish. Layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom of the dish, then spread half of the cooked beef on top. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese over the beef. Repeat the layers, then pour the beef broth (and milk, if using) over the top.
- Bake to Perfection: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender. Remove the foil, top with Parmesan cheese, and bake uncovered for another 10 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Serve & Enjoy: Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley and enjoy!
Notes
- You can swap the cheddar for any other cheese you prefer, like mozzarella or gouda.
- For extra flavor, add a layer of sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers.
- If you like a creamy texture, add a little more milk or a dollop of sour cream before baking.
- This dish can easily be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for the best results.
