This easy homemade Beefaroni is a comforting and flavorful dish made from scratch, offering a major upgrade from the classic canned version. Perfect for a quick, satisfying dinner!

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 24-ounce jar spaghetti sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 8 ounces ziti
  • 2 ½ cups beef broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef and Onions:
    1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef and diced onions. Cook until the beef is browned, about 5 minutes.
    2. Add the minced garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant. Discard any excess fat.
  2. Add the Tomato Paste and Sauce:
    1. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute to combine.
    2. Add the spaghetti sauce and sugar. Mix well and bring to a simmer.
  3. Cook the Pasta:
    1. Add the dried ziti and beef broth to the skillet. Stir to make sure the pasta is covered with liquid.
    2. Turn up the heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium, cover, and cook for 12-15 minutes, or until the pasta is tender.
  4. Finish the Dish:
    1. Stir in the heavy cream and let it simmer on low heat for 8-10 minutes to thicken and combine the flavors.
  5. Serve:
    1. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or basil and serve hot!

Notes

  • Feel free to use any short pasta shape such as penne or rigatoni in place of the ziti.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the beef mixture.
  • For a cheesier version, top the Beefaroni with shredded mozzarella or Parmesan cheese before serving.
