This delicious baked salmon features a mouthwatering honey garlic soy glaze made from just five ingredients. Ready in under 35 minutes, the glaze combines sweet honey, salty soy sauce, aromatic garlic, and fresh ginger for a flavorful, healthy meal that’s perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or entertaining guests.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 4

Ingredients

Salmon

  • 4 salmon fillets, about 6 ounces (170g) each

Glaze

  • 1/3 cup (80ml) reduced sodium soy sauce (or regular soy sauce)
  • 1/3 cup (113g) honey
  • 1 Tablespoon (15ml) sesame oil (or olive oil)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced (or 2 teaspoons jarred/minced garlic)
  • 1 teaspoon peeled minced fresh ginger

Optional Garnish

  • Chopped green onion
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Marinate the salmon: Place the salmon fillets into a large zippered food storage bag or shallow dish. In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, minced garlic, and fresh ginger. Pour about half of this marinade over the salmon, turning to coat all sides. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, up to 4 hours, allowing the flavors to infuse.
  2. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (191°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, parchment paper, or a silicone baking mat for easy cleanup and place aside.
  3. Bake the salmon: Remove the salmon from the marinade and line the fillets on the prepared baking sheet, skin side down. Reserve the leftover marinade for the glaze. Bake the salmon in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or roughly 10 minutes per inch thickness, until the internal temperature at the thickest part reaches 145°F (63°C). For a crispier finish, you can broil the salmon for the last minute.
  4. Reduce the glaze: While the salmon is baking, pour the remaining unused marinade into a small saucepan or skillet over medium-high heat. Optionally, you can add the used marinade from the salmon back into the pan. Bring it to a boil, then lower the heat to medium-low and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until slightly thickened. Monitor closely to prevent burning as it bubbles and reduces.
  5. Serve: Drizzle the thickened honey garlic soy glaze generously over the baked salmon fillets. Garnish with chopped green onion and sesame seeds if desired. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • The marinating time can be extended up to 4 hours for deeper flavor penetration, but don’t exceed this to avoid a mushy texture.
  • Use reduced sodium soy sauce to control salt content; regular soy sauce works but will be saltier.
  • Ensure salmon is cooked to an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) for food safety.
  • Leftover glazed salmon keeps well refrigerated for up to 3 days; reheat gently to maintain moisture.
  • You can substitute ginger powder if fresh ginger is unavailable, using about 1/4 teaspoon.
  • Broiling at the end is optional but enhances the glaze’s caramelization and crispness.
