These easy Maple Bars are made in minutes using refrigerated biscuit dough, fried to golden perfection, and topped with a sweet homemade maple glaze. A delicious breakfast or treat!

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 8 bars

Ingredients

  • For the Donut Bars:
  • 8 count refrigerated biscuit dough (Pillsbury Grand Homestyle Buttermilk biscuits work well)
  • 2 cups canola oil (for frying)
  • For the Maple Glaze:
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 2 teaspoons maple extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Pour 2 cups of canola oil into a medium-sized saucepan and heat it on medium-low heat.
  2. Open the biscuit dough and separate the biscuits. Gently stretch each biscuit into an oblong shape, instead of keeping them round.
  3. In a small saucepan, combine butter and brown sugar. Whisk in milk and heat for about 5 minutes on medium heat, stirring often until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves.
  4. Remove from heat, then add the corn syrup and maple extract.
  5. Gradually add the powdered sugar, ½ cup at a time, whisking until smooth between additions.
  6. Keep the glaze warm on the stove, whisking occasionally, and add 1-2 teaspoons of milk if necessary.
  7. Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature of the oil—it should reach 350°F. Adjust the heat gradually if needed.
  8. Carefully drop 2 bars at a time into the hot oil. Fry for about 2 minutes, then flip and fry for another 2 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Remove the bars and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  10. Once the bars have cooled for a few minutes, whisk the glaze to ensure it’s smooth enough for dipping.
  11. Dip each bar into the glaze and then place it glaze-side up on a cooling rack.
  12. Repeat until all bars are fried and glazed.
  13. These bars are best enjoyed within an hour, but they’re still amazing the next morning!

Notes

  • If you prefer a thicker glaze, you can add less milk or more powdered sugar.
  • For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cinnamon to the glaze.
  • These maple bars can be stored at room temperature for up to a day or in an airtight container for a couple of days.
