Philly Cheesesteak Garlic Bread is a delicious fusion of classic Philly cheesesteak and traditional garlic bread, featuring seasoned ribeye steak, caramelized onions, peppers, and melty cheeses on toasted Italian bread.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Italian bread
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick / 113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 pound ribeye steak
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups (169.5 g) mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) parmesan cheese, shredded
  • Parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the Italian bread loaf lengthwise into two halves. Place them cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together minced garlic, softened butter, salt, and pepper. Spread evenly over both halves of the bread. Set aside.
  4. Slice ribeye steak into thin strips and season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  5. In a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and butter. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring often, until caramelized (10–15 minutes). Add green peppers in the last 5 minutes if using. Transfer to a plate and keep warm.
  6. In the same skillet, add the seasoned ribeye strips. Use two spatulas to shred and tenderize the meat while it cooks. Cook until just done, about 2 minutes.
  7. Divide the cooked meat evenly between the two bread halves. Top with the caramelized onions and green peppers (if used).
  8. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and parmesan over the meat, fully covering it.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 12–14 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden.
  10. Remove from oven, garnish with chopped parsley, slice into portions, and serve.

Notes

  • Use freshly shredded cheese for better melt and flavor.
  • Customize with mushrooms or provolone cheese if desired.
  • Great as an appetizer or main dish with a side salad.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the oven to maintain crispness.
