A quick and flavorful BBQ chicken recipe that uses simple spices and BBQ sauce to elevate boneless, skinless chicken cooked perfectly in a skillet. Ready in just 25 minutes, this dish is perfect for a fast, satisfying meal.

  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Spices

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly cracked black pepper

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken (breasts or thighs)
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: If using chicken breasts, pound them to an even thickness of ½ to ¾ inch by placing the breasts between plastic wrap and gently pounding with a mallet or rolling pin. This ensures they cook evenly. Skip this step if using chicken thighs.
  2. Season the Chicken: In a small bowl, mix smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and freshly cracked black pepper. Rub this spice blend evenly on both sides of the chicken pieces for a balanced flavor.
  3. Cook the Chicken: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil and swirl to coat the pan. Place the seasoned chicken into the hot skillet and cook each side for about 5 to 7 minutes until the chicken is golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF, ensuring it’s fully cooked.
  4. Apply BBQ Sauce and Rest: Turn off the heat and brush both sides of the chicken with 1/4 cup BBQ sauce. Allow the chicken to rest in the pan for 5 minutes to let the sauce set and the juices redistribute before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken reaches 165ºF for safe consumption.
  • Pounding chicken breasts to even thickness prevents overcooking and uneven texture.
  • Feel free to swap BBQ sauce with your favorite variety for different flavors.
  • Chicken thighs do not require pounding since they cook more uniformly.
  • Resting the chicken after cooking helps retain moisture and flavor.
