- 4 cups cooked rice
- 2 cups broth (Better Than Bouillon chicken is recommended)
- 1.5 cups mixed onions and bell peppers, chopped
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil, divided
- 1 tsp seafood seasoning
- ¼ cup flour
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 3 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp black pepper (more to taste)
- ½ tsp salt (more to taste)
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Season the Shrimp: Season the shrimp with seafood seasoning and set aside.
- Cook the Shrimp: Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until they curl into a ‘C’ shape. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Cook the Sausage: In the same skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil. Add the ground turkey sausage and cook until browned.
- Add Vegetables and Garlic: Add the chopped onions, bell peppers, and minced garlic to the skillet with the sausage. Continue to cook until the vegetables soften and the sausage is fully browned.
- Add Seasonings: Stir in the oregano, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to coat the sausage and veggies in the spices.
- Make the Sauce: Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir well to combine. Gradually add the broth, bringing the mixture to a simmer for 5-7 minutes to thicken the sauce.
- Add Rice: Add the cooked rice to the skillet and mix thoroughly. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes to allow the flavors to combine.
- Return the Shrimp: Return the shrimp to the skillet, mixing them in with the rice and sausage. Cook until everything is heated through.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve hot and enjoy your flavorful shrimp and rice dish!
