Southern Sausage Gravy is a rich, creamy, and comforting breakfast classic that’s quick and easy to make with just four ingredients. Perfect for pouring over biscuits, toast, or crispy hash browns!

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 pound turkey sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chives or fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet (cast iron works great) over medium-high heat and add the turkey sausage. Break it up with a wooden spoon and cook until browned and no longer pink. Do not drain the fat.
  2. Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir. Cook for another minute, allowing the flour to absorb into the sausage.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium and add in the milk, heavy cream, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir until combined.
  4. Simmer the mixture until it thickens, stirring frequently to prevent burning. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve hot over homemade biscuits, toast, or crispy hash browns, and garnish with chives or fresh parsley.

Notes

  • If you prefer a spicier gravy, add extra red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce.
  • You can substitute the turkey sausage with pork sausage for a richer flavor.
  • This gravy pairs wonderfully with a side of scrambled eggs or fried potatoes.
