Ingredients
- 1 pound turkey sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chives or fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Heat a skillet (cast iron works great) over medium-high heat and add the turkey sausage. Break it up with a wooden spoon and cook until browned and no longer pink. Do not drain the fat.
- Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir. Cook for another minute, allowing the flour to absorb into the sausage.
- Reduce the heat to medium and add in the milk, heavy cream, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir until combined.
- Simmer the mixture until it thickens, stirring frequently to prevent burning. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot over homemade biscuits, toast, or crispy hash browns, and garnish with chives or fresh parsley.
Notes
- If you prefer a spicier gravy, add extra red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce.
- You can substitute the turkey sausage with pork sausage for a richer flavor.
- This gravy pairs wonderfully with a side of scrambled eggs or fried potatoes.
