Ingredients
Pizza Dough
- 1 ½-2 cups all purpose flour (195g plus more for rolling)
- 1 package instant or quick yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ⅔ cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons oil
Taco Pizza
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 package low sodium taco seasoning (about 3 tablespoons)
- ¾ cup canned refried beans (7 oz or about half a can)
- ½ cup jarred tomato salsa (mild or spicy)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, crushed tortilla chips, sour cream and sliced jalapenos for garnish as desired
Instructions
- Prepare the Pizza Dough: In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, yeast, salt, sugar, oregano, and garlic powder. Add warm water and oil, stirring until mixture forms a very wet dough. Gradually add more flour, kneading gently until a soft, non-sticky dough forms. Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm, draft-free spot until doubled in size (about 40 minutes).
- Cook the Ground Beef: Preheat oven to 425°F. In a medium skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until fully browned. Drain excess fat and stir in taco seasoning. Set aside.
- Shape the Pizza Crust: Roll out the risen dough to slightly larger than a 12-inch pizza pan. Transfer to lightly greased pan and fold edges over to form a thicker crust, pinching to seal.
- Assemble the Pizza: In a bowl, mix refried beans and salsa, then spread evenly over pizza crust. Top with seasoned ground beef and cover with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake the Pizza: Place in preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is lightly golden and cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Add Toppings and Serve: Remove pizza from oven and garnish with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, crushed tortilla chips, sour cream, and sliced jalapenos as desired. Slice and serve warm.
Notes
- To ensure the dough rises properly, place it in a warm, draft-free area.
- Use lean ground beef to reduce fat content.
- Adjust salsa spiciness according to taste preference.
- For a crispier crust, prebake dough for 5 minutes before adding toppings.
- Customize toppings to your liking; black olives or avocado slices also work great.
