Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (232°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking the bread braid.
  2. Divide dough: Separate the pizza dough into three equal balls to prepare for rolling and filling.
  3. Roll dough: Take one dough ball and roll it out into a long rectangle about 12 to 16 inches in length.
  4. Add cheese: Place approximately 1 ¼ tablespoons (18g) of vegan mozzarella cheese down the center of the rolled dough.
  5. Add sauce: Spread about ¼ cup (60ml) of marinara or pizza sauce evenly over the cheese layer.
  6. Roll up dough: Carefully roll the dough up into a long log, enclosing the cheese and sauce inside. Repeat this process with the other two dough balls, ending with three filled logs.
  7. Prepare braid base: Place the three dough logs onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Attach the tops of the three strands together by pressing them firmly, then use a sharp serrated knife to cut down the center lengthwise of each strand, creating open layers for the braid.
  8. Braid dough: Begin braiding the three strands by crossing an outer strand over the middle strand, alternating sides, until you reach the end. Press the ends together to seal the braid.
  9. Shape braid: Twist the ends of the pizza braid into an ‘S’ shape to create a beautiful twisted presentation.
  10. Bake: Place the braid on the lower rack of the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and let the braid cool for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing and serving to allow flavors to set and ensure easier cutting.
