This Big Mac Salad is a flavorful and low-carb twist on the classic burger, combining seasoned ground beef, crisp lettuce, shredded cheddar, and a tangy homemade Big Mac-style dressing. Ready in just 30 minutes, this salad is perfect for a quick, satisfying meal that mimics all the favorite flavors of the iconic sandwich without the bun.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Salad Ingredients

  • 1 head chopped/shredded iceberg lettuce (or romaine lettuce)
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or to taste)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon dehydrated minced onions

Dressing Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1.5 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt & pepper (to taste)

Seasonings for Beef

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon seasoning salt (or more, to taste)

Instructions

  1. Rehydrate Onions: To rehydrate the dehydrated minced onions, place them in a small bowl and add 1/4 cup of water. Let them soak for 30 minutes until softened.
  2. Prepare Salad and Dressing: While the onions are rehydrating, chop and shred the lettuce and shred the cheddar cheese. In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, ketchup, yellow mustard, white vinegar, paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper to make the dressing. Mix well.
  3. Cook Ground Beef: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef along with garlic powder, onion powder, and seasoning salt. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, breaking up the meat as it browns and cooks through. Remove from heat and drain excess fat. Stir in the rehydrated onions after draining the soaking water.
  4. Assemble the Salad: Let the cooked beef cool slightly. Distribute the lettuce evenly into four individual bowls. Top each with the cooked beef and shredded cheddar cheese. Drizzle the prepared dressing over each salad. You can serve the salad in individual bowls or toss everything together based on preference.

Notes

  • Use romaine lettuce as an alternative to iceberg for a slightly different texture and flavor.
  • Dehydrated minced onions must be rehydrated to achieve the right texture and flavor in the beef mixture.
  • Adjust seasoning salt according to your taste preference.
  • This salad is best served shortly after assembly to maintain the crispness of the lettuce.
