  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

For the Bars

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 ½ cups light brown sugar (packed)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste

Cinnamon Sugar Swirl

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Cream Cheese Icing

  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 ounces unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla bean paste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or lightly spray it with baking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and fine sea salt. Stir well and set aside.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the packed light brown sugar with melted unsalted butter until well incorporated.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Whisk in the eggs and vanilla bean paste into the sugar and butter mixture until the batter is smooth and homogenous.
  5. Combine Dry and Wet: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined to avoid overmixing.
  6. Press Batter into Pan: Spread and press the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish to form a smooth layer.
  7. Prepare Cinnamon Sugar Swirl: In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon together.
  8. Add Cinnamon Lines: Pour the cinnamon sugar mixture in two long lines down the length of the batter in the pan.
  9. Create Swirls: Using a butter knife, gently swirl through the cinnamon sugar and batter to create a marbled effect.
  10. Bake the Bars: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Cool Completely: Remove the pan from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely before frosting.
  12. Make Cream Cheese Icing: While the bars cool, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together with an electric hand mixer in a medium-sized bowl until smooth and creamy.
  13. Add Powdered Sugar: Gradually add the powdered sugar a little at a time, mixing constantly until fully incorporated.
  14. Finish Icing: Stir in the vanilla bean paste and beat the mixture on high speed for 2 minutes until light and fluffy.
  15. Frost the Bars: Cut the cooled bars into servings and either spread the cream cheese frosting over the entire bars or drizzle in a zigzag pattern as desired.

Notes

  • For a thicker swirl, add more cinnamon sugar and make additional swirls in the batter.
  • If desired, substitute vanilla bean paste with vanilla extract in equal amounts.
  • The frosting recipe makes enough for the entire batch; use half if you prefer a light drizzle rather than full coverage.
  • Make sure the bars are completely cooled before applying the frosting to prevent melting.
  • Store the bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
