Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon canola or olive oil
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 1 cup orange marmalade
- ½ cup sweet BBQ sauce
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- ¼ teaspoon red chili pepper flakes (optional)
- ½ teaspoon sesame seeds
- 2 sliced green onions, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the orange marmalade, sweet BBQ sauce, ground ginger, and red chili pepper flakes (if using). Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well blended. Set this sauce mixture aside for later use.
- Cook the ground chicken: Heat the canola or olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground chicken and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula until it’s fully cooked through, no longer pink, and evenly crumbled.
- Add the sauce and simmer: Pour the prepared marmalade and BBQ sauce mixture into the skillet with the cooked chicken. Stir continuously and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes, allowing the sauce to heat through and thicken slightly.
- Finish with seeds and garnish: Stir in the sesame seeds and remove the skillet from the heat. Garnish the dish with freshly sliced green onions to add a bright, fresh flavor.
- Serve: Serve your ground orange chicken immediately over cooked rice or use it as a filling in fresh lettuce wraps for a lighter meal option.
Notes
- You can substitute ground chicken with ground turkey for a similar texture and flavor.
- If you prefer less sweetness, reduce the orange marmalade quantity slightly.
- Red chili flakes are optional but add a nice mild heat to balance the sweetness.
- This dish pairs excellently with steamed rice, quinoa, or wrapped in crisp iceberg lettuce leaves for a low-carb option.
- For added crunch, sprinkle chopped peanuts or cashews as a topping.
