This Healthier Buffalo Chicken Dip is a creamy, spicy appetizer made with shredded chicken, light cream cheese, Greek yogurt, and plenty of hot sauce and cheese. It’s a guilt-friendly twist on a party favorite, perfect for serving with veggies or tortilla chips.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 10 servings

Ingredients

Chicken Mixture

  • 2 (12.5-oz) cans of chicken or 2.5 cups finely shredded chicken breasts (rotisserie chicken can be used)
  • 1 (8-oz) package light cream cheese or Neufchatel, softened
  • 1/2 cup Frank’s hot sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Topping

  • 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional toppings: additional chopped green onion and blue cheese crumbles

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or similarly sized round or square dish. If using a larger dish, reduce baking time accordingly.
  2. Shred Chicken: In a large bowl, shred the canned or cooked chicken using a fork until the pieces are finely separated.
  3. Mix Creamy Ingredients: Add the softened light cream cheese, Frank’s hot sauce, shredded mozzarella, and plain Greek yogurt to the shredded chicken. Stir well until all ingredients are fully combined into a creamy mixture.
  4. Add Seasonings: Fold in the chopped green onion, garlic powder, and onion powder evenly throughout the mixture.
  5. Assemble in Baking Dish: Pour the chicken mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  6. Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 16 to 20 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and the cheese on top is melted and slightly golden.
  7. Add Final Toppings and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven and top with optional blue cheese crumbles and extra chopped green onion, if desired. Serve immediately with fresh vegetables and tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • Using rotisserie chicken instead of canned chicken can add extra flavor.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of hot sauce depending on your preferred spice level.
  • Serve with a variety of fresh vegetables like celery, carrots, and bell peppers for a healthier option.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute cream cheese and yogurt with suitable alternatives, though texture may differ.
  • If using a larger baking dish, reduce baking time to prevent drying out the dip.
