Ingredients
Vinaigrette Ingredients
- 1/4 oz basil leaves (approximately 1/4 cup, loosely packed)
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/4 tsp garlic (crushed or finely grated)
- 1/4 tsp honey
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 pinch pepper
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: Place all ingredients—basil leaves, extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, garlic, honey, salt, and pepper—into a small food processor or blender. Pulse just until combined and smooth.
- Alternative Mixing Methods: If you don’t have a food processor or blender, finely chop the basil leaves and whisk all ingredients together thoroughly in a bowl, or alternatively, shake everything vigorously in a small jar, making sure the honey is well incorporated.
- Store or Use: Use the vinaigrette immediately for best flavor or store it in the refrigerator for up to a few days. Before each use, give it a good shake or whisk to recombine the ingredients as they may separate over time.
Notes
- Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of honey according to taste.
- For a stronger garlic flavor, finely grate the garlic instead of crushing.
- This vinaigrette pairs beautifully with mixed green salads, grilled vegetables, or as a light marinade for chicken or fish.
- Make sure to store in an airtight jar to maintain freshness.
- Shake well before use to re-emulsify the dressing as olive oil may separate on standing.
