Magic Bars are a decadent and delicious layered dessert bar featuring a buttery graham cracker crust topped with chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, chopped Heath bars, shredded coconut, chopped nuts, and sweetened condensed milk. Baked until golden and gooey, these bars are a perfect crowd-pleaser that’s easy to prepare and ideal for parties or anytime you crave a rich treat.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings

Ingredients

Crust

  • 1 sleeve honey graham crackers (about 9-10 whole crackers)
  • 6 Tablespoons butter, melted

Topping

  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup butterscotch chips
  • 2 (1.4 oz) Heath bars, chopped (or 1 cup toffee bits)
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pecans)
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: Crush the graham crackers inside the sleeve by hand, use a food processor, or crush them with a rolling pin until they are fine crumbs. In a mixing bowl, combine the crushed graham crackers with the melted butter until evenly coated. Press this mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of a greased 8-inch square baking dish to form the base layer.
  2. Layer the toppings: Begin by sprinkling the chocolate chips evenly over the crust. Then add a layer of butterscotch chips, followed by the chopped Heath bars or toffee bits, then the shredded coconut, and finally the chopped nuts. Make sure each layer is spread out evenly to ensure every bite gets all the yummy flavors.
  3. Add the sweetened condensed milk: Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over all the layered toppings to bind everything together and create that gooey magic bar texture.
  4. Bake the bars: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the top is bubbly and set.
  5. Cool and serve: Remove the bars from the oven and allow them to cool completely. For easier cutting and serving, refrigerate the bars first to firm up. Cut into 16 squares and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute the nuts with your favorite variety, or omit them for a nut-free version.
  • Using shredded sweetened coconut adds sweetness and texture; unsweetened coconut can be used but may alter the sweetness.
  • Refrigerating the bars before cutting helps achieve clean slices.
  • Store leftover bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Ensure your baking dish is greased well to prevent sticking.
