Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 ¼ cup milk of choice (coconut milk recommended)
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
- ½ tablespoon maple syrup, or more to taste
- ½ teaspoon vanilla bean paste
- Pinch of sea salt
To Serve (Optional)
- Chocolate shavings
- Whipped cream
Instructions
- Mix: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, cocoa powder, chocolate protein powder, maple syrup, vanilla bean paste, and a pinch of sea salt. Whisk vigorously until all ingredients are well combined and smooth.
- Heat: Place the saucepan over medium-low heat. Warm the mixture gently while continuously whisking to prevent clumps and ensure an even texture. Heat until the hot chocolate is warm and frothy but avoid boiling, which takes about 3-4 minutes.
- Adjust Consistency: If the hot chocolate is too thick, whisk in an additional 2-3 tablespoons of milk until you reach your preferred consistency.
- Serve: Pour the warm protein hot chocolate into a mug. Optionally, garnish with chocolate shavings or whipped cream for an extra indulgent touch. Enjoy immediately!
Notes
- Use a milk of your preference; coconut milk adds a rich, creamy texture and slight sweetness.
- Do not boil the mixture as overheating can cause the protein powder to clump and affect texture.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more maple syrup according to taste.
- For a vegan version, ensure the protein powder and any toppings are plant-based.
- Whisking continuously while heating helps achieve a smooth, frothy hot chocolate.
