Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 Tbsp tahini
- 1 pitted medjool date (or 2 tsp coconut sugar, or other sweetener of choice)
- 1/2 tsp maple syrup or honey (if not vegan)
- 1 pinch sea salt
- 1 pinch ground cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp collagen peptides (adds creaminess + protein, omit if vegan)
- 2 Tbsp coconut milk powder (or omit and substitute hot water with warmed milk of choice)
- 1 ¼ cup very hot water (or milk of choice)
Toppings
- Coconut whipped cream
- Drizzle of tahini
- Dusting of cocoa powder
- Shaved dark chocolate
Instructions
- Add Ingredients to Blender: For best results, place all ingredients into a high-speed blender with a lid that has a vent to allow steam to escape. If you don’t have a blender, heat the mixture on the stovetop, omit the date and substitute with additional sweetener, or blend ingredients with cold water or milk and then heat on the stovetop.
- Blend Until Smooth: Blend the mixture until it is creamy and smooth. Taste and adjust flavors by adding more honey or maple syrup for sweetness, cinnamon for extra warmth, cocoa powder for a richer chocolate flavor, or coconut milk powder or tahini for added creaminess.
- Serve and Garnish: Pour the hot chocolate into a mug. Enjoy as is or top with coconut whipped cream, a drizzle of tahini, a dusting of cocoa powder, or chocolate curls made by shaving your favorite chocolate bar with a vegetable peeler.
- Store and Reheat: Best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored sealed in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop before serving.
Notes
- Use collagen peptides for added protein and creaminess; omit if following a vegan diet.
- Medjool dates add natural sweetness, but you can substitute with coconut sugar, maple syrup, or honey depending on dietary preferences.
- If coconut milk powder is not available, substitute very hot water with warmed milk of choice to maintain creaminess.
- Use a blender with a vented lid to safely blend hot liquids and prevent pressure buildup.
- This recipe can easily be customized with different plant-based milks or sweeteners to suit your taste and dietary needs.
